Club Championships – Final day Sunday 7th September

Thank you to the members who attended the Finals Day and what a beautiful glorious day it was. Good food and drink rounded off a good day for tennis. Special thanks goes to Berty for organising/making  the food, Vicki for the noodles, and the cake makers, Debbie for her themed tennis balls cakes, Cathi for her famous brownies and not to mention Gabby’s very delicious  chocolate cake. Well done and thank you girls. A special thank you to David who took charge of the kitchen and kept it tidy and ticking over nicely in spite of the rest of us

Thank you to all the competitors who made it to the finals…congratulations to the winners and better luck next time to the runners up.

Congratulations to:
Anthony –  who won the men singles again…for the 7th consecutive year
Christina – who won both the ladies singles and the ladies doubles with Debbie, who also won the mixed doubles with Garth
Garth – appearing in his first finals day, and competing in the singles, men doubles and mixed doubles.

Commiserations Liz, Campbell, Rosemary and  Cathi. We will see you again next year…revenge is sweet they say.

Finals Day photos

Open Day 19th July
Beaten by the forecasters who were wrong again. Thunder and lighting and rain, they said, so most our bookings failed to turn up! We had a lovely day. The kids turned up but the adults missed a treat. Jon did the cardio tennis, along with most of the members of the ladies second team and most members who were there. As usual 2 very enjoyable sessions. A few families turned up again at this second Open day, so we are hoping that between Russell’s little one, Rob’s little one and all the babies in prams who were present we might have a Wimbledon champion one day?
Again grateful thanks to everyone who supported the event, the ladies second team turned up after being encouraged and bullied by one of their members (the same one who bullied them into doing the cardio tennis.) Thanks Nan, Vicki, Chantal, Berty, Liz, Cathi (ooh delicious brownies as usual), Ishmael and the family (great to see family members attending), not forgetting Hew( we did notice you were there!). I know I am forgetting someone …do remind me if I have, it is not deliberate.

Handicap Tournament and BBQ – 29th June
Robert was back as games organiser, there were  moans as usual about partners, and a lot of good play on the grass.  Richard, one of our new members backed up by Jane (I wonder who put them together as a pair?) saw off all opposition, sorry Peter and Berty, better luck next time.
The BBQ was a mixed grill ( a little burnt,  burnt, and very burnt). The non meat stuff though contributed by the ladies went down very well.
Thanks to all the stalwarts, especially Chantal, who is not only a good secretary but a willing helper not to mention a very reliable member of the ladies second team. Did I mention guys the ladies second team has won almost all their matches thanks to some very sessions with Jon?. Thanks Coach.

Spring Tournament – 18th May
Lew kindly consented to being the games organiser for this Tournament in the absence of Robert our resident expert. Thanks for a good job Lew, I know you would have preferred the pruning to  tennis players moaning about their partners…oops that was just me.  We had a good turnout of members for the tournament. After a few hard fought round robin games, we had a gritty come from behind  win by Christina and Chris, narrowly denying Chris and Vicki. I will let you figure out which Chris played with whom!  A  dry day lovely to play on the grass, thanks to all the players  especially Peter and Christina who both made it to the semis on Peter’s very first tournament.  Thanks to all the members who supported the event.

Curry Evening – 9th May
Our curry evening with Anjula Devi was well attended and enjoyed by all. An all sections event, bowls, cricket and tennis members praised the freshly cooked, delicious and interesting food. All members also had the pleasure of meeting the vivacious Angela. The talk now is of the next evening. Watch this space!
